Christopher Thomas pecks Komuntale at the introduction ceremony.
Toro Kingdom's princess Ruth Komuntale on
Thursday introduced her American companion Christopher Thomas in a rather private cultural ceremony at Gweri village in Fort portal.
Mr Thomas’ entourage was led by Uganda’s Ambassador to Belgium, Kateenta Apuuli. The bridegroom was taken through the cultural rituals of the Tooro and introduced to the royal family by Apuuli.
“We are the Bakurungu-Basonde clan of Kayanja, Kitagwenda in Kamwenge District,” announced Apuuli when asked by the MC which clan the bridegroom belongs.
The Bakurungu clan is responsible for cooking for the king.
Thomas was adopted into the Tooro community and given a pet name, Amooti, after Apuuli led him through the kitooro customs.
He offered 12 pots of traditional banana wine (tonto), 12 crates of beer, and 12 crates of soda, among other gifts to his in-laws. He was later given the Tooro kingdom marriage certificate.
The Church marriage ceremony will be held on Saturday at St. John's Cathedaral, Harukoto in Fort portal and will be presided over by the outgoing Archbishop of Uganda Henry Luke Orombi who will be assisted by Rwenzori Diocese Bishop, Reuben Kisembo, one of King Oyo's subjects.
King Oyo, Komuntale's young brother, is expected to walk his sister down the aisle and hand her to his brother-in-law to take matrimonial vows.
